The U.S. Customs official said that the travelers photos and license plates had been breached as part of Cyber attack.

On Monday US customs and Border Protection (CBP) said, that images of travelers had been compromised.

The CBP works to use of cameras and video recording at Airports, where it captured the images that be a part of facial recognition programme, which has designed to trace the identity of visitors entering and existing the US.

CBP says the airport operation were not affected by this breach, but they declined that how many peoples images had stolen.

They said, the agency learned by this breach on May 31 and none of the image data had been identified on Dark Web.

According to Washington Post, CBP said copies of license plate images and traveler images collected by CBP had been transferred to the subcontractors company network, violing the agency security and privacy rules. The subcontractor’s network was then attacked and breached. No CBP systems were compromised, the agency said.

“This breach comes just as CBP seeks to expand its massive face recognition apparatus and collection of sensitive information from travelers, including license plate information and social media identifiers,” said Ms Neema Singh Guliani, senior legislative counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union.

“This incident further underscores the need to put the brakes on these efforts and for Congress to investigate the agency’s data practices. The best way to avoid breaches of sensitive personal data is not to collect and retain it in the first place.”

Representative Bennie Thompson, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said he intended to hold hearings next month on the Homeland Security Department’s use of biometric information.

“Government use of biometric and personal identifiable information can be valuable tools only if utilised properly. Unfortunately, this is the second major privacy breach at DHS this year,” Mr Thompson said in a statement to The Post.

“We must ensure we are not expanding the use of biometrics at the expense of the privacy of the American public.”
